PEDESTRIAN FOOTFALL / MOVEMENT
Pedestrian Footfall and Movement
Pedestrian footfall & movement surveys are a great way to understand how members of the public, or customers, move around within a given space. By installing various low impact camera solutions, the video footage is analysed to assess the pedestrian movements. For example, this could be used to obtain customer entry/exit numbers to a shop or venue over a given period, or, to see how pedestrians move around a particular stretch of road and locating popular crossing points, etc.
As town centres and popular high-pedestrian locations develop our pedestrian crossings can require short-term monitoring in order to ensure they are still keeping up with demand and are appropriately located.

CASE STUDY
SAFETY
We were commissioned to conduct a camera survey at a well-used trail in the South Downs National Park where the client was looking to improve the crossing facilities. The trail crosses a rural 40mph A-Road on the brow of a hill which was not only used by walkers and cyclists but also horses. The client needed to understand the quantity and composition of individuals using the crossing, as well as their behaviours.
The survey was conducted for 14 days and over 2300 individuals were recorded.
The client used this data to help inform vehicle calming measures at the crossing to allow trail uses greater safety.
