JOURNEY TIME SURVEY
Journey Time Survey
Journey time surveys are a great way to identify popular routes and assess travel duration during various times of the day or week. This type of survey is conducted by first understanding the project scope and then planning the intended routes. Depending on the various routes identified these will be driven multiple times within the timeframes for analysis. Routes can be video recorded to accompany the written report showing average times as well as also identifying any possible reasons for delays. This survey type is a great way to assess the real-world impact of roadworks or congested areas on road users, this helps plan for more effective infrastructure upgrades.

CASE STUDY
ROADWORKS AND DIVERSIONS
We were commissioned by a local borough council to undertake Manual Journey Time surveys during and after diversion routes being in place. There were 3 routes to capture, all driven in both directions and at several times throughout the days.
In most cases, the journey times were faster after the diversion routes had been removed. There were 14 occasions where the recorded times were faster by 0 – 10 minutes and only 4 where times were slower by 0 - 3 minutes.
It was deemed that the surveys were necessary to alleviate the public’s concerns about long delays and the necessity for the diversions in the first place.
