AUTOMATIC TRAFFIC COUNT RADAR

Automatic Traffic Count Radar
Radar ATC’s work similarly to normal, pneumatic tube ATC’s whereby they collect data on passing vehicles. The main differences being, due to not requiring tubes across the highway they can be used on faster stretches of road. They can also be used on dual carriageways collecting accurate data across multiple lanes of traffic. An important factor in comparison to regular ATC’s is that radars classify the vehicles based on the length of the passing vehicle, not by the number/distance between axels.

CASE STUDY
RADAR TECHNOLOGY
We were commissioned by our client to conduct multiple ATC surveys throughout a rural town where a heavily used A-Road passes through. Many of the sites were conducted with standard pneumatic tube ATCs however there were several sites that were more suited to a Radar ATC. This was due to the poor road quality and parked vehicles blocking the installation zone. With the Radars, we were able to install off street infrastructure combating these issues raised with conventional counters. Without these, it would have been unlikely we would have been able to provide accurate and reliable data.
